When to write ‘ck’ and when to write ‘k’

Did you know that there is a grammatical rule on when to write ‘k’ at the end of the word or ‘ck’. I will give you an example:

sick or sik: We should write ck because there is a short vowel i before the ‘k’ sound

bake: the a in this word is long vowel ‘a’ so where there is a long vowel it is always k and not ck.

Another rule for ‘k’ at the end is if there is a consonant letter before the k for example: fork, pink, mink, monk dork

There you go!!!

example of ck words: tick tock sock sick lock lick kick pick pack sack mock

example of k words: bake lake make take  poke bike mike pink tank whisk
